Commissioning for Quality

This programme will seek to build a more sophisticated market understanding of existing quality frameworks and how they can be managed to produce a culture of ongoing learning and superior performance. Commissioning for Quality will explore how the power of commissioning can be leveraged to induce quality improvement behaviour among providers of care through three workstreams:

  • Improving provider performance – how to adapt existing quality improvement tools and techniques that are currently being successfully practiced in health systems around the world.
  • Commissioning for results – how measurement and reporting in a variety of domains (safety, timeliness, effectiveness, efficiency, equity, and patient experience) can focus improvement activity to achieve local health improvement goals.
  • Improvement in action – even where there is good consensus around care standards there can be wide variation in the quality of care provided. Looking specifically at sexual health, this programme will explore how some communities are able to provide care to a high standard and what keeps others from doing so.
